The unique educational and training objectives of the Graduate Assistantships in the Areas of National Need (GAANN) Fellowship program are to:
- Enable Fellows to participate in multi-disciplinary research and establish leadership roles in the emerging fields in nanotechnology, information technology, and biotechnology.
- Prepare Fellows to pursue careers in academia and in prestigious national laboratories.
- Enable greater numbers of women and minority students to pursue interdisciplinary doctoral study across the departments of Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
- Enable Fellows to participate in international research and educational collaborations through internships in Italy, Germany, Japan, Korea, and Puerto Rico.
