    Awards

    Competition Categories & Judging

New this year--There will be separate competitions and awards for High Schools/Community Colleges and Middle Schools.

Each team is judged in each of the five competition categories:

Panels of external judges from industry, government agencies and higher education will evaluate the competition.  Each category will have its own separate panel of judges.  Each team will be given a score for each event and each category will have three awards.

Overall Greater Philadelphia Sea Perch Winner

Each team will receive a score for each of the five competition categories. The scores for each category will be weighted to determine the overall Greater Philadelphia Sea Perch Challenge Champion.  The weights for each category are listed below:

    • 30% - Vehicle Performance
    • 20% - Innovative Design
    • 20% - Team Presentations
    • 20% - Sea Perch Design Notebooks
    • 10% - Team Spirit & Sportsmanship

    Navy Contract Award
New award for the 2007 competition that is modeled after the Navy contract award process.  Navy contracts take into account the presentation of the engineering design as well as the level of actual performance.  Scoring for this award is based on the average scores from the Team Presentation and Vehicle Performance.  There will be separate Middle School & High School/Community College Awards.   This award will be a $100 cash prize for the teams and the winning teams will be asked to have their Sea Perch on display for the year.

All awards will be announced at the end of the competition.  All teams will receive a package in the mail containing their teams scoring sheets from the competition.  Detailed information on the competition categories is included in this packet.

The overall competition winners for both middle school and high school categories will be invited to bring their Sea Perch to the ASNE Intelligent Ships Symposium VII on 9-10 May 2007 at Drexel University where they can interact with hundreds of industry, academia and government engineers.
