
Abieyuwa Aghayere, PhD, PEng F.ASCE, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
The ASCE Fellowship recognizes members who have made celebrated contributions and developed creative solutions that change lives around the world. This honor is awarded to only 3% of ASCE members who have made significant contributions to the field.
Aghayere’s research focuses on structural systems and failure analysis, with expertise in wood, concrete, and steel construction. His work has contributed to media coverage of notable events, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Champlain Towers South condo collapse. As a faculty member, Aghayere teaches building design and structural engineering systems. He has authored definitive textbooks on structural steel design, reinforced concrete design and structural wood design.
Aghayere holds degrees from the University of Lagos, MIT, and the University of Alberta. He is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario, Canada, and has extensive experience as a structural design engineer and peer reviewer.
