Professors Yury Gogotsi and Michel Barsoum have received Agilent Solutions Innovation Research Awards (SIRA) for their advanced materials research in energy storage technologies. The awards, granted by Agilent, a leader in life sciences and applied chemicals markets, provide one-year loans of advanced equipment to stimulate innovative research.
Gogotsi received an Agilent 5900 ICP-OES system for elemental analysis, which he hopes will help develop MXene membranes for water purification and energy storage. Barsoum received an Agilent 8900 ICP-QQQ system for mass spectrometry, which is critical in material analysis.
The Agilent equipment will facilitate their work on purifying MXenes, analyzing trace elements, and enhancing energy storage technology research. This partnership between academia and industry aims to accelerate scientific discovery and develop practical solutions.
