Yury Gogotsi, Distinguished University and Charles T. and Ruth M. Bach Professor in the department of materials science and engineering, has been elected to the Academy of Europe (Academia Europaea).

Established in 1988, the Academy aims to advance excellence in scholarship across various fields, including humanities, law, social sciences, mathematics, medicine, and natural and technological sciences. Membership is offered by invitation only, following a rigorous peer review process to verify scientific and scholarly excellence.

The Academy seeks to promote excellence in scholarship for public benefit and to advance education in Europe across all age groups. Election to the Academy is limited to those who have demonstrated sustained academic excellence in their respective disciplines.
