Drexel’s College of Engineering continues to rank among the world’s most influential research institutions, with 20 faculty members listed among the top 2% of most-cited researchers globally, according to Stanford University’s 2023 citation database.
Among them, Distinguished University and Bach Professor Yury Gogotsi, PhD, and Distinguished Professor Michel Barsoum, PhD, earned top honors. Gogotsi ranked #176 across all disciplines and #8 globally in nanoscience and nanotechnology, while Barsoum ranked #524 overall and #7 worldwide in materials science.
Both were also named to the 2024 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list, which identifies researchers whose publications rank in the top 1% by citations over the past decade. Gogotsi was recognized in both the materials science and chemistry categories, an achievement earned by only 218 researchers worldwide.
Drexel Engineering’s representation spans a broad range of disciplines, including materials science, mechanical and chemical engineering, environmental science, computer hardware, and applied physics. The citations reflect the global impact of Drexel’s research community and its contributions to advancing technologies across energy, sustainability, health, and smart systems.
